Combatting climate change
The reality of climate change has been seen around the world with freak weather storms, unprecedented fires in Australia and California, and the first major glacier in Iceland completely disappearing. These are just a few examples of the challenges ahead. We all must act. We need both the individual and the collective will to take action now. This is the decisive decade.
In September 2019 we joined 86 other companies in committing to recalibrate our science-based targets, set in 2017, to be in line with the latest science of 1.5°C warming scenario. Our work begins on recalibrating in 2020.
Make do and mend
华体会体育官网Recently we were honored to receive a couple of recognitions –our A-CDP result for our work in reducing our carbon footprint and carbon disclosure, but also in 2019 we received a recognition in Finland for our circular practices.
The first green industrial revolution
Climate change is a reality. And because of this, we are compelled to act. Recent estimates suggest that “greening” the world’s cities, which produce the majority of CO2 emissions, would cost approximately 2% of global GDP.
Our climate work
Our work to combat climate change and its effects encompasses increasing the energy efficiency of our products in use in our customers networks to help them decrease their carbon emissions, taking actions to reduce the emissions from our own operations and finally creating technology that can help other industries and organizations reduce their emissions, resource use and eco footprint.
Digital technology innovations are already playing a key role in not only reducing the negative impacts but driving potential positive impacts of technology on industries, society and the lives of individuals –the enabling effect. To achieve the greatest impact, all parties from individuals through business to governments and countries must work collectively. 5G, IoT, smart automation and planning, cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence will contribute to halting the advance of climate change. In many areas, society and government, and even we as individual people, will need to rethink how we live.
华体会体育官网Circular thinking is also one key aspect of our approach, integrated into our whole value chain. Circularity is about working efficiently to avoid waste generation and resource overuse through better design, serviceability and product lifetime extension. Reuse, recycle, refurbish. We also work with our supply chain, sharing and learning best practices and encouraging disclosure of carbon emissions and setting targets. Our climate related disclosures, including risks, opportunities, governance, targets and scenario analysis are aligned according to the guidance of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in our CDP report.
Our portfolio – energy efficient and climate-driven. Our products in use remain the most significant part of our carbon footprint. We are committed to making the products and solutions we deliver to our customers more efficient in terms of how they are made and how they operate.
Our operations – energy and resource efficient. Across our own operations we aim to reduce the emissions, use of natural resources and waste through processes and programs in our offices, data centers and labs, and also targeting transportation, packaging, and employee travel and commuting. Beyond our own direct operations, we also work with our supply chain to encourage and enable greater energy and resource efficiency and less waste.
